About

What was CP-Achieve?

  • CP-Achieve was a five-year research program focused on helping adolescents and young adults with cerebral palsy live full, healthy lives.
  • The program was funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council.
  • Our team included young people with cerebral palsy, their families, clinicians, researchers, and students—all working together to reach CP-Achieve’s goals.
  • CP-Achieve began in February 2020 and concluded in June 2025

We focused on understanding:

  • The physical and mental health challenges faced by young people with cerebral palsy
  • What outcomes matter most to them

We used this knowledge to:

  • Develop programs that health and disability service providers can use to better support young people
  • Help young people access health and community services that meet their needs
  • Inform policy and improve practice

We had two main research programs:

  1. Improving the physical and mental health of adolescents and young adults with cerebral palsy.
  2. Building supportive family, community and health service environments which help young people take part in life situations which are important to them.

And four key themes that underpinned all our work:

  • Promoting participation
  • Health economics
  • Developing a specialist workforce
  • Consumer involvement
