'Working together through co-design to make key principles for the CycLink cycling intervention'

Presented by John Carey

John will present findings from the CycLink Co-design Study. This study used an adapted version of experience-based co-design to design key features or 'principles' of a community cycling intervention called CycLink in partnership with young people with disability, parents and cycling providers

John Carey is a physiotherapist, PhD candidate at the University of Melbourne and CP-Achieve Research Associate. He works clinically as a senior physiotherapist and team lead in a Young Adult Transition Service and Special Developmental School in Melbourne. His PhD topic focuses on fostering a supportive environment for young people with disability to participate in cycling. This includes working in partnership with people with lived experience of disability, practitioners and cycling organisations to develop resources and programs.

'The CycLink Partnership Project'

Presented by Dr Rachel Toovey

Dr Toovey is leading a recently awarded NHMRC Partnership Project Grant for the multi-sectoral project: Linking young people with disability to participation through cycling: Implementation and evaluation of the co-designed CycLink program. Rachel will outline the application of the design principles from the CycLink Co-design Study to this project, and present an overview of the project proposal, partners and anticipated outcomes.

Dr Rachel Toovey is a postdoctoral researcher, Senior Lecturer and physiotherapist with the Physiotherapy Department at the University of Melbourne, and a CP-Achieve Research Associate. Rachel works with individuals, families, communities and organisations to create change and improve health through inclusive participatory research and evaluation centred around physical activity and sport. Rachel co-leads the Physiotherapy First Nations, Health Promotion & Equity teaching team.
