Double Vision: Seeing Family-centered Care from the Medical and the Parental Perspective

We are delighted to have Dr. Wade and Carol Shrader speaking at our final CP-Achieve webinar session of the year.  Wade and Carol are parents to adult triplets, two of whom have cerebral palsy, plus a teenage daughter.  Wade is also a pediatric orthopedic surgeon whose practice focuses on children with cerebral palsy.  Together they will share their unique perspective and insights to the importance of family-centered care.

Dr. Wade Shrader is The Freeman Miller Endowed Chair of Cerebral Palsy at the Nemours A.I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware, where he focuses his practice on the treatment of children with cerebral palsy and similar developmental disabilities.   He is also a Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and Pediatrics at Thomas Jefferson University and the First Vice-President of the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine (AACPDM).

Carol Mason Shrader is a Policy Director for the Delaware State Council for Persons with Disabilities and an author of a children’s book.  In 2008, her then 11-year-old son Mason created a blog — The Blessing Counter -- and encouraged her to write. His willingness to have his story told so that even just one family could find hope in the journey of raising children with Cerebral Palsy inspires her still. She has shared the story of her family around the world through her children’s book, “Helix Rolls Into A Sleepover,” where a cute little tortoise gives a glimpse into life with wheels.
