How is our consumer involvement different?

Consumer involvement in CP-Achieve means that the research is carried out ‘with’ adolescents and young adults with cerebral palsy and their families, rather than ‘to’, ‘about’ or ‘for’ them”.

Consumers influence research.

They collaborate, advise and make decisions about:

·  Priority topics to research

·  Research questions to explore with research

·  Methods used to carry out the research

·  Data collection, analysis and interpretation

·  Sharing the results of the study with others

Research participants:

·  Are told about the research - the research has already been planned

·  Provide consent to be involved

·  Data are collected from participants who might, for example:

·  Have assessments to see if an intervention works

·  Complete a survey or an interview to find out their views on the topic

·  Have research about them published in journals
